Moving workloads to the Oracle Cloud

Digital transformation is a buzz word in today’s business world. All organizations are encouraged to adopt digital and save resources in the process. There are many drivers that influence the market and customers who are ready to make the change. But businesses are mainly looking for speed to value – rapid delivery of services, flexibility, reduction in procurement lead time, business agility to react to market changes, cost reduction, and reliability and security to make this transition.

Besides these drivers, two key industry trends are influencing business decisions these days:

Due to both trends, the cloud is becoming a necessity for businesses that need more than on-premises IT can provide. Many organizations are looking to move applications and the databases they rely on out of the data center. Moving ERP to the Oracle SaaS Application Suite not only enables businesses to lower TCO and transform their way of working, but also provides benefits like reduced IT costs, better speed to value, and enhanced business agility with an improved security and reliability of the business’ IT landscape. With the correct set of roadmaps, business can generate value from this process.

In our last blog on Moving logistical planning to Oracle Cloud, we discussed how digitally transforming our IT support capabilities is becoming increasingly important. We also saw how our teams were able to support a client in moving workloads to the cloud and managing their logistical operations and the transition smoothly. But our team’s capabilities aren’t limited to a specific business function or sector.

Our team recently supported one of Spain’s largest mobile network providers transition to the Oracle Cloud. The customer’s business arm sells insurance for mobile devices and they needed to simplify and modernize their IT by moving to the cloud. A small, pre-built on-premises application developed in the Oracle technology (database and application server) was migrated to the Oracle Cloud.

The customer needed to lift and shift their Oracle workload to the cloud, reducing their IT spend without impacting business operations. The challenge lay in doing an accurate sizing to put together a competitive proposal with an equally cost-efficient and effective migration plan. Since the customer’s underpinning technology was based on Oracle technology, the move to Oracle Cloud came naturally for both the customer and our team.

The customer’s requirement was to use one of the most cost-effective cloud platforms for this migration and they selected Oracle because Oracle applications and databases currently running on premises are fully compatible with Oracle Cloud. Oracle also offers tools to simplify app and database migration that often automate the entire process. Moving Oracle applications and databases to the cloud requires no code changes, meaning we could quickly modernize the customer’s operations in the cloud while preserving their existing investments.

While this is just one more instance of our team’s expertise in successfully carrying out the transition to Oracle Cloud, we understand that there’s no one-size-fits-all solution and finding the right path for every business is critical.
